History
Tech Careers was founded in 2003 by Asher Elias and Glenn Stein. The project is located in Kibbutz Nachshon, between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and thus in close proximity to the center of Israeli high tech. The first class of Tech Careers began in February 2004 with a group of 15 Ethiopian young adults. All program participants live in a dormitory setting in the kibbutz and are entitled to use all of the kibbutz's facilities. Nine students of the first class graduated after 14 months of study: five in the computer instructor’s track and four in the computer programmer’s track. All of the first course's computer programming graduates are employed today in various hi-tech companies.
The second Tech Career course began in May 2005 with a class of nine; five students are expected to graduate as computer programmers in September 2006. The third class of Tech Careers began in July 2006 with 16 students, a significant rise in enrollment, and is expected to take 14 months.
