Tech-Career Newsletter – Pesach 2025
Career Preparation & Professional Development
Tech-Career students receive comprehensive career preparation combining soft skills training, industry expert sessions, interview simulations, and hands-on experience. This year, we hosted a range of workshops and lectures led by top professionals, equipping students with the confidence, connections, and practical knowledge needed to launch their careers.
LinkedIn Workshop
“If you’re not there, you don’t exist!”—this was the key takeaway from the engaging session with LinkedIn expert Moshe Zini, who has been mentoring our students for several years.
The workshop introduced students to LinkedIn as a gateway to career opportunities in high-tech. Moshe challenged them to reflect on their “why”—understanding their motivations to present themselves authentically and effectively.
Students learned practical strategies to turn their profiles into recruiter magnets, focusing on personal branding, digital presence, and professional networking. They walked away with actionable tools and greater confidence in leveraging LinkedIn for their job search.
The Art of Storytelling and Public Speaking
Storytelling is an age-old tradition, woven through generations. But its true power emerges when one moves from listener to storyteller—a transformation our students experienced firsthand. In a practical workshop led by Avi Shosheim and Noam Kaikov from AT&T, Cybersecurity students learned how to craft compelling presentations, engage an audience, and deliver clear, impactful messages. They practiced presenting in front of peers and staff, receiving constructive feedback to refine their skills. Students then went on to present before an industry panel, including Rahav Shalom Ravivo (senior official at the Ministry of Economy), Yaakov Neguse (Tech-Career alumnus, pedagogical advisor, and Google employee), and Micha Weiss (Tech-Career board member and senior consultant at the Ministry of Economy).
This real-world challenge pushed students to master their content, self confidence, and meet industry standards. Despite having two months left in their training, the panel’s verdict was unanimous: “These are no longer students—they are cybersecurity professionals ready to make their mark in the industry!”
Curiosity as a Driver of Success
“Don’t be afraid to start over.” This powerful message resonated as longtime volunteer Hilik Himovich shared his remarkable professional journey. From Phantom systems in the military to reaching the heights of the cybersecurity world, Hilik proved that relentless curiosity and a thirst for learning can open any door. He introduced his “Success Triangle”—Money, Fun, and Meaning—stressing that a fulfilling career requires at least two of the three. But beyond practical advice, like “In your first month, arrive at sunrise and leave at sunset—just absorb and learn,” what truly captivated the students was the fire in his eyes as he spoke about lifelong learning. “Always look sideways,” he urged. “Every new concept you encounter—go research it.” Hilik’s core message? A career is a journey, not a destination. Unexpected paths can lead to surprising opportunities, and as his own story proves, curiosity and passion for learning are the ultimate compass for success.
Financial Management Workshops
This year’s financial literacy workshop, led by Shlomi Carmi, Head of Financial Education at Israel Discount Bank, provided students with essential tools for managing their personal finances as they embark on their careers.
“You are the CEOs of your own financial future” was the guiding principle that shaped the two-day workshop, covering key financial concepts: Smart budgeting & responsible spending; the power of long-term savings – starting small; practical tools for saving & investing; setting and tracking financial goals.
Students completed the workshop with valuable insights, a personal budgeting Excel tool, and a three-month financial action plan. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive: “Incredibly useful for life,” “An amazing, practical workshop.” Thanks to the long-term support of Israel Discount Bank, our students are learning to build strong financial foundations.
Time Management Workshops
“The first step is understanding where our time goes.” With this insight, Isabella from Cognyte kicked off our Time Management Workshops, an essential part of our training programs. These sessions equip students with practical tools for effective time management—a challenge they face both during the course and in their professional lives. A longtime dedicated volunteer, Isabella developed a unique approach that blends practical strategies with psychology, focusing on task prioritization and confidence building. “Clear goals and belief in your ability to achieve them significantly increase your chances of success,” she emphasizes.
Employment Contracts & Labor Law
This workshop, led by Tech-Career treasurer Eyal Gihon, provides a deep dive into employment contracts, negotiation strategies, key terms to focus on, and an introduction to stock options—an unfamiliar topic for many. Drawing from his extensive experience, Eyal equipped students with the tools to navigate their first job agreements with confidence, making the contract-signing process informed and strategic.
Recruiters from top companies like Nayax, AT&T, F5, Samsung, Imperva, and Cognyte conducted one-on-one mock interviews, providing students with real-world hiring experience and personalized feedback. “It was invaluable to hear directly from recruiters about what they’re looking for,” shared one participant. Recruiters, in turn, were deeply impressed: “These are high-caliber young people with strong motivation—they’re definitely on the path to success.”
In addition, seasoned professionals from Orbia, Cognyte, Check Point, Torii, Cisco, Workday, Nayax, AT&T, Imperva, Bynet Communications, and other companies led in-depth technical interviews, testing students on complex network management scenarios. Each participant received detailed feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.
Despite the challenges of the day, including rocket sirens disrupting sessions, students remained determined. One even arrived straight from active reserve duty, eager to seize the opportunity. “Seeing their excitement took me back to the start of my own tech journey,” shared a volunteer interviewer.
Job Interview Simulations
Career Preparation Workshops
Led by career advisors Ilanit Magor and Tali Yaakov, our seven-session workshop series focused on empowerment and professional growth. Students honed their ability to craft their unique stories, refine their CVs, and master interview techniques—all under the guiding principle: Recruiters hire people, not just skills. Workshops emphasized personal branding, AI-driven job search tools, and strategic networking. By the final session, the transformation was clear: “I realized I have so much to offer.” “I learned to believe in myself.” “Interviews aren’t as intimidating as I thought.”
At Tech-Career, we believe success starts with self-confidence and grows with the right skills and professional support to reach new heights.
Learning Strategies
This year’s Learning Strategies sessions took on special significance, with Asmo Mola, a Tech-Career alumna and trained educator, leading the workshop. Her unique blend of teaching experience and firsthand knowledge as a recent graduate created an inspiring and insightful session. Students identified their personal learning styles—visual, auditory, or kinesthetic—and explored practical techniques to enhance their abilities. “I realized my visual learning can complement other skills,” shared one participant.
The session also delved into the difference between self-learning and being a self-directed learner, emphasizing how independent learning is a critical skill in the ever-evolving tech industry - another important step toward a successful career.

Identity & Belonging – Strong Roots for a Secure Future
Since October 7th, identity and belonging have become central conversations. To support this, we launched a special series of sessions with clinical psychologist Tali Semani, creating a safe space for reflection, dialogue, and community support.

“Know Where You Came from and Where You’re Going”
Tech-Career CEO Takele Mekonen shared the powerful history of Ethiopian Jewry—stories of resilience, heritage, and perseverance. He emphasized to our students, “You are the future. Your greatest strength is education!” The discussion fostered personal discoveries, family connections, and a deeper appreciation of our roots.
Sigd – A Celebration of Tradition and Unity
Sigd is an Ethiopian Jewish holiday celebrated 50 days after Yom Kippur, involving prayer, fasting, and communal gathering to express yearning for Jerusalem and commemorate receiving the Torah. At the annual Sigd gathering in Jerusalem, tradition met modern-day heroism. This year, the holiday took on new meaning as we met the father of Adir Ishto Bugala z”l, a soldier who fell on October 7th. “Love unconditionally,” Adir had said—his legacy now a guiding light.
Alumni Sessions – “I Was Right Where You Are”
Graduates came to share their journeys, offer insights, and help students break down mental barriers. A powerful reunion saw three cybersecurity alumni reflect on their path: “You’ll never feel like you know everything, but that’s what makes the journey exciting.” Tech-Career is more than just a training program—it’s a lifelong family and support network, where every graduate helps pave the way for those who follow.

Nurturing Role Models in the Community
The fourth cycle of Tech-Career’s volunteer project, in collaboration with FIRST Israel, HaMa’apilim School in Lod, and F5, concluded on January 6, 2025, with an inspiring festival celebrating seven weeks of learning, mentorship, and intergenerational connection.
As part of the program, 25 students from Tech-Career’s Cybersecurity Course (Class 62) volunteered with 66 second-grade students from HaMa’apilim School, introducing them to the exciting world of robotics. Using LEGO kits from FIRST’s FLL EXPLORER program, the students created an engaging learning experience, offering young participants their first hands-on exposure to technology and creative problem-solving.
At the closing festival, 11 teams of students and children proudly presented the robotic models they built together throughout the program. At the end of the event, each team received a certificate of appreciation from the dedicated FIRST volunteers who guided them throughout the project.
We are incredibly proud of our students—not only for dedicating their time to volunteer despite their demanding studies, but for the meaningful connections they built with the children. The young students looked up to them with admiration, seeing them as inspiring role models in the world of technology.
Following this success, Class 67 launched the fifth cycle in March, working with 66 first-grade students—continuing to spark curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning!

Job Fair: Opportunities, Inspiration, and Connections
With 150 participants, 10 leading companies, and countless career opportunities, the Tech-Career and 8200 Alumni Program job fair was a powerful gateway into the high-tech industry. Held at the offices of Meitar Law Firm, the event welcomed top employers, including Check Point, eToro, Axonius, Fiverr, Israel Aerospace Industries, and the Mossad.
At the heart of the event was an inspiring alumni panel, moderated by Avinoam Pachler, featuring Daniel Mekonen, Chava Degu, Daniel Ishete, and Oded Masala. “They started exactly where I am now.” This realization resonated deeply with students, filling them with confidence in their own professional futures.
This fair was more than just a networking event—it was a moment of inspiration and connection, proving that opportunities are built within strong, supportive communities. Year after year, Tech-Career graduates continue to break barriers, demonstrating that high-tech is open to all!

Alumni Network
The Tech-Career’s alumni network is evolving into a powerful hub for career growth, mentorship, and professional opportunities. With 1,400 graduates and growing, the network is creating stronger connections between alumni, industry leaders, and career opportunities. Recent milestones highlight this transformation: the launch of a DevOps course, the development of a smart alumni database to help graduates connect with peers, find mentors, and access career opportunities, and a successful employment fair in collaboration with the 8200 Alumni Association. Building on this momentum, the network is rolling out exciting new initiatives, including:

Under the leadership of Orly Elazar, a 2014 graduate and experienced Big Data Engineer, the network continues to grow, creating a lasting impact on graduates and the broader tech ecosystem.

Launching Our New Website – A Digital Leap Forward for Tech-Career
This year, Tech-Career took a major digital step forward with the launch of our new website—a vision brought to life through extraordinary collaboration and community support.
The project began with a partnership that connected Tech-Career with industry leaders who committed resources to this important initiative. Under expert guidance, two talented interns from Shenkar worked closely with mentors and a professional design studio to develop the site. A central partner in this transformation was Wix, which generously contributed its expertise to bring our vision to life. Their team demonstrated outstanding professionalism, dedication, and sensitivity to our needs, providing continuous support to ensure the site remains dynamic and optimized. Our new Hebrew website is now up and running, and the English platform is coming soon – marking a significant milestone for Tech-Career, enhancing our visibility, engagement, and impact in the digital space!

Spotlight on Our Graduates
“As a software developer at HiredScore (now part of Workday), I play a key role in implementing our application for Fortune 500 companies, automating complex processes, and improving delivery efficiency. Additionally, I am involved in hiring junior and senior developers for our global teams in Ireland, the U.S., and Israel, and I lead the development of an internal Bootcamp training program for new engineers. Before transitioning to software development, I worked in HR recruitment at Yad Vashem. I hold a degree in Sociology, Anthropology, and Education from Hebrew University and was recently accepted into the OGS entrepreneurship program at Brandeis University in partnership with MIT and MassChallenge. I dream of founding a startup with a social impact. Driven by my passion for technology and social impact, I volunteered as a mentor in the In-Tech program, guiding participants in selecting their tech career paths. Tech-Career played a pivotal role in shaping my career, providing me with the skills, confidence, and industry connections needed to break into high-tech. Beyond technical training, the program offered invaluable career preparation—mock interviews, resume workshops, career development sessions, and English practice. The campus atmosphere, mentorship from industry professionals, and supportive community helped me navigate the challenges of the field. Even three years after graduating, I remain actively involved in Tech-Career, giving back to the community that opened doors for me. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a transformative organization!”
Segedu Abebe
Software Engineer at Workday
Tech-Career Full-Stack Development Graduate (2022)

“I’m 25 years old, from the Krayot, and I first heard about Tech-Career through a friend who had completed one of the organization’s programs and was thriving in a senior high-tech role. After learning about the opportunity, I knew I had to give it a shot. The 10-month training program was intense and comprehensive. What sets Tech-Career apart is that beyond the high-quality technology training, we received a full support system to prepare us for the industry. This included an English mentoring program, a career preparation track covering everything from job interviews to professional development, and inspirational talks from alumni who shared their career journeys. A major advantage was the housing near the campus, which remained open 24/7, allowing us to study and practice late into the night and on weekends—an opportunity you won’t find anywhere else. I completed my training in October 2024, and by the end of the month, I had already started working at Amazon. I can say without a doubt that joining Tech-Career was one of the best decisions of my life!”
