Tech-Career Newsletter Pesach 2026

From the Desk of Takele Mekonen

Dear Friends and Partners,

In these challenging days of war, it feels more important than ever to share the work that continues at Tech-Career. Even in times of uncertainty, our programs move forward with energy and purpose.

We remain dedicated to preparing the next generation of Israel’s high-tech workforce, an effort that is increasingly vital as Israel’s technological leadership continues to shape the country’s future.

Our training programs continue to evolve in response to industry needs, with a strong focus on cybersecurity, network administration, automation testing, and data analysis. Across all courses, students gain practical tools to work with artificial intelligence (AI), an innovation that is rapidly transforming the technology landscape. This year, we continued our commitment to equal opportunity through dedicated programs for women and retraining tracks for academic graduates seeking to enter the tech sector.

This year marks an important milestone: the launch and successful completion of the first course at our new Northern Branch. The inaugural network administration and information security program in Kiryat Yam concluded with its first graduating cohort, and already six graduates have secured positions in the field. Building on this success, a new cohort focusing on software testing will soon begin in Haifa.

We have also submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Labor to expand the participation of Ethiopian Israelis in the high-tech industry, an initiative that could significantly broaden our impact if selected.

Meanwhile, construction of Tech-Career’s new campus in Lod is advancing at an exciting pace. Watching the classrooms, dormitories, and offices take shape - transforming a long-held vision into reality - is truly inspiring. The campus is expected to open in early 2027, and we look forward to welcoming students there.

To our dear donors and partners - thank you for your trust, partnership, and generosity. Thanks to you, we are creating meaningful change in the lives of young Ethiopian Israeli men and women, strengthening an entire community, and contributing to Israeli society as a whole.

May we soon see days of peace and quiet ahead.

Happy Passover,

Takele Mekonen

Recruitment: Strong Demand for Tech-Career Programs

Demand for Tech-Career’s training programs continues to grow, clearly reflected in this year’s selection process. More than 650 candidates participated in introductory information sessions, 130 computerized assessments were conducted, and approximately 100 personal interviews took place - each tailored to the requirements of specific training tracks. These rigorous processes ensure that every cohort is carefully selected and well matched to the program. This intensive effort reflects both the high demand for Tech-Career’s programs and the organization’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for integration into Israel’s technology sector. Six courses are currently active - four that were underway before the High Holidays, and two that launched afterward. Two additional courses are expected to launch in the coming weeks: a cybersecurity course and a software testing course at Tech-Career’s Northern Branch in Haifa, following Passover. For the first time, Tech-Career initiated a dedicated preparatory program for cybersecurity candidates. The program helps participants strengthen their foundational skills before beginning the training itself, increasing readiness and improving chances of success in this demanding field.

Learning Never Stops: Training Program Highlights

Even amid escalation in the current security situation, our courses continue without interruption. Students have moved to remote learning in accordance with Home Front Command guidelines. For our students, the path forward cannot wait.

DevNet – Class 68 – Northern Branch, Kiryat Yam

This course marked an important milestone as Tech-Career’s first training program in northern Israel. Launched in February 2025 in Kiryat Yam, the program operated in hybrid format and included Cisco's CCNA and CCNP certifications. Despite the disruption of repeated reserve duty call-ups during the war, students successfully completed both certifications after an intensive year of study. Alongside their technical training, participants took part in an extensive career preparation program, including personalized career counseling, CV development, interview preparation, and research into potential employers. They also met with Tech-Career alumni and participated in professional workshops focused on personal development and career readiness. Through Tech-Career’s partnerships with industry leaders, students gained valuable exposure to the technology sector. They participated in professional presentations, mock interviews with senior professionals, and visits to leading companies where they met with engineers, HR teams, and senior executives.

The newest cohort launched in December 2025 with 17 students. Even amid Operation Roaring Lion, participants successfully completed their first professional certification, Cisco's CCNA, with one student set to sit the exam upon returning from reserve duty. Alongside hands-on lab sessions, students have participated in career preparation workshops and personal development sessions covering financial management, time management, and professional branding on LinkedIn. Many of these sessions are led by Tech-Career alumni, offering practical advice and inspiration from those who have walked the same path and successfully entered the tech industry.

Course 72_edited.jpg

Despite the war, a new Cybersecurity course launched on March 23rd with 25 students, including five women. Developed in partnership with IITC College and the Israel Innovation Authority, the course will run via Zoom until they can safely transition to our campus. The course is expected to conclude in November 2026.

Our second Northern Branch QA course - developed in partnership with the Israel Innovation Authority, Qualitest, and Ono Academic College - is now fully enrolled and set to launch on April 12th in Haifa. Following an interview day with team leaders at Qualitest, we received excellent feedback: they noted that we had assembled a strong and talented group. The cohort will include 21 students, six of them women and four currently serving in the reserves. This course marks the continued expansion of Tech-Career's presence in northern Israel.

In addition to these two new courses, Tech-Career plans to launch six more training programs across several high-demand technology fields including network administration, operating systems, Salesforce implementation, and Agentic AI. These programs will run through hybrid learning models as well as residential programs at the Tech-Career campus in Lod.

Adding to this momentum, Tech-Career has submitted a proposal to a Ministry of Labor tender aimed at significantly increasing the number of Ethiopian Israelis entering the high-tech sector and advanced studies each year. If selected this will allow Tech-Career to substantially expand the number of training programs and graduates entering key roles in Israel’s technology industry.

Looking Ahead: Growth & New Training Programs

Beyond Technical Skills: Preparing Students for Careers

At Tech-Career, preparing students for employment goes far beyond technological training. Throughout the program, participants engage in hands-on learning with leading technology companies, bridging classroom learning with real industry experience. Students visit companies such as Check Point, AppsFlyer, BigID, Cognyte, Accenture, Payoneer, Infinidat, the Bank of Israel, Pelephone, and Israel Electric Company, meeting engineers, recruiters, and managers who share insights into daily life in the tech sector. These visits include professional panels, networking sessions, and behind-the-scenes exposure to real IT and development environments.

Alongside the technical curriculum, students complete a comprehensive career preparation track covering CV writing, LinkedIn profile development, interview preparation, networking strategies, and personal branding. In one session led by a Tech-Career alumnus, students learn how to build a LinkedIn presence that attracts recruiters and supports professional networking.

Students also participate in interview simulations hosted by partner companies, experiencing one-on-one HR interviews and receiving detailed feedback from recruiters. Large-scale technical interview simulations bring together dozens of managers and professionals from leading companies, allowing students to practice explaining technical concepts and solving real-world problems under real interview conditions.

Additional workshops address professional life skills including time management, financial literacy, and understanding employment contracts. The financial literacy seminar helps students build personal budgeting strategies and long-term financial planning as they enter the workforce.

Toward the end of each course, students present their final projects at the offices of leading tech companies including companies such as AppsFlyer, Accenture, Payoneer, and BigID, gaining valuable experience explaining their work to panels of industry professionals.

A particularly meaningful element is the involvement of Tech-Career alumni, who return to mentor students and share their journeys - from their first job searches to their current roles in the industry. These encounters offer inspiration, practical advice, and a powerful reminder that a career in the high-tech sector is within reach.

Identity & Belonging: Strong Roots for Future Success

Alongside their professional training, Tech-Career students participate in a dedicated Identity and Belonging Program designed to strengthen their sense of heritage, community, and confidence as they build their careers.

Students take part in meaningful community events, including the national memorial ceremony in Jerusalem for Ethiopian Jews who perished on the journey to Israel through Sudan and a memorial event honoring a fallen Ethiopian Israeli soldier. Students also join the broader Tech-Career community in celebrating the Sigd holiday in Jerusalem, an important holiday in Ethiopian Jewish tradition.

The program also includes workshops and discussions with community leaders, encouraging students to explore their personal stories, connect with their roots, and take pride in their identity. In strengthening this sense of identity and belonging, Tech-Career helps students build the confidence and resilience needed to succeed both professionally and personally.

Growing Our Capacity for Impact

Behind Tech-Career's expanding programs is a dedicated team committed to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement.

In recent months, staff and students visited communities near the Gaza border together, hearing firsthand accounts of October 7 - a powerful and sobering experience that deepened the team's shared commitment to building opportunity and resilience.

Staff also participated in a professional learning day hosted by AT&T, exploring practical applications of artificial intelligence and taking part in a workshop on leadership and influence in complex professional environments.

Tech-Career is also actively strengthening its internal capacity - rolling out the Monday.com management platform to improve coordination, streamline workflows, and establish shared systems across the organization. These initiatives reflect an ongoing investment in the team, ensuring they have the tools, knowledge, and support needed to keep expanding opportunity and impact.

From Training to Career: Industry Placements

Despite the economic slowdown and the growing challenge of integrating junior candidates into the tech industry, Tech-Career graduates continue to secure meaningful employment in leading companies. The results are clear:

These outcomes reflect the quality of Tech-Career's training and the growing recognition of our graduates across Israel's high-tech industry, professionals who continue to break barriers and establish themselves in roles that matter.

Hands-on in High-Tech: Tech-Career's Internship Program

Tech-Career’s internship program, supported by the Israel Innovation Authority, continues to open doors to the technology sector for Ethiopian Israeli graduates of tech training programs and academic studies.

The program provides six-month paid internships at leading high-tech companies, giving participants valuable hands-on experience while strengthening the professional and soft skills needed to succeed in Israel’s competitive tech industry. Designed to reduce barriers to entry, the program focuses on high-demand fields such as full-stack software development, QA, data analysis, cybersecurity, automation, and DevOps. Participants include both Tech-Career alumni and academic graduates who benefit from a comprehensive support framework including personal mentoring, professional workshops, targeted training, and peer collaboration.

The program works closely with leading industry partners, including Wix, Check Point, AppsFlyer, Samsung, Sony, BigID, Cognyte, Nayax, Qualitest, Folio, and Trado, with Gini-Apps and This recently joining the initiative. The program has welcomed 41 interns across its first three cohorts, with 18 already placed full-time at companies such as the Ministry of Defense, Sony, Nayax, Cognyte, and Elad Software. Additional participants are currently in advanced recruitment stages with companies including Check Point, AppsFlyer, Nayax, and Qualitest. One particularly meaningful milestone is the growing community of 15 Tech-Career alumni now working at Cognyte, a strong professional network that reflects the program's long-term impact.

Since the outbreak of the war, interns have been working remotely in accordance with Home Front Command guidelines, but the program has continued without interruption, a testament to the resilience of our participants and the flexibility of our partner companies.

The fourth cohort launches in March-April 2026 with 33 candidates in the pipeline, from which 15 to 22 interns will be selected. Five are already moving forward: two placed at Folio and This, and three in advanced recruitment at Qualitest, Gini-Apps, and TLVTech.

Connected Beyond Graduation: Our Alumni Forum

Tech-Career’s growing alumni community has become a strong professional network that continues to support graduates long after they complete their training. Through in-person events and active online groups, the community creates meaningful opportunities for networking, professional development, and career advancement.

Orly Elazar, a graduate of Tech-Career's 2014 software development course, leads our alumni community with a genuine understanding of the journey. Over the past decade she has built a career as a Big Data Engineer across gaming, cybersecurity, and advertising - gaining international experience through the OGS entrepreneurship program in Boston and the MassChallenge accelerator. She is currently co-founder of Meant2B, an AI platform in the Relationship Wellness space developed within the Haile Scale framework. In Women's Month 2026, Orly was selected for the '100 Women - 100 Voices - 100 Portraits' campaign. The quote she chose - "Be who you want to meet" - is more than words. As a woman in tech, a founder, and someone who grew up in the Ethiopian Israeli community, she learned early that the seats you want do not always exist. So you build the table, and then you make room for others. That is exactly what she does leading Tech-Career's alumni community. 'You are the invitation.' To view the full post, click here.

Over the past year, several key events brought our alumni together. An entrepreneurship forum hosted at the venture capital fund Hetz introduced alumni to the world of startup investment, offering insights into how venture funds evaluate ideas and what founders should consider when building and scaling companies. A large networking gathering at Check Point drew nearly 100 alumni. The evening featured a keynote, short “Tech Talks” by alumni, and roundtable discussions where participants exchanged experiences, expanded their professional connections, and learned from one another.

Most recently, on International Women's Day, Tech-Career hosted a special evening, Women in Tech Evening – Building Community Across Distance. The evening brought together leading voices from Israel's tech industry for practical insights, professional connections, and shared experience. Despite the security situation, 42 women gathered on Zoom for an event run entirely by volunteers. It was a powerful reminder that the strength of this community transcends any physical setting.

The evening opened with a sobering look at the persistent gaps facing women in Israel's tech industry and the even steeper barriers confronting Ethiopian Israeli women. A keynote on personal branding and strategic networking was followed by four breakout sessions covering career management in cyber, building professional visibility, data analysis as a career path, and strategic leadership in high-tech. The evening was a reflection of the resilience Tech-Career works to instill every day, and of a community that chooses to grow, lead, and lift each other up.

In April, Tech-Career will host a career fair in partnership with 8200beta at Meitar, the venue of our previous successful employer fair. Graduates will have the opportunity to meet leading employers, explore open roles, and connect with hiring teams from across the technology sector, making it a valuable day for both job exposure and professional networking.

Beyond these gatherings, the alumni community remains active year-round through WhatsApp and Facebook groups connecting hundreds of graduates. Alumni regularly share job opportunities, referrals, professional advice, and industry insights, creating a supportive community that continues to open doors across Israel's tech sector.

Building the Next Generation: The Tech Path Initiative

tech-path.jpg
Tech Path 1.jpg
Tech Path 3.jpg

Meet Tech Path, Tech-Career's newest initiative designed to reach young people at an earlier stage and introduce them to the world of technology.

Launched in February 2026 in partnership with Sha’ar Shivyon and Cognyte, the pilot introduces 17 middle- and high-school students (8th to 10th grade) from the Amit youth village in Petah Tikva to the world of technology. Over eight weeks (32 hours), students explore key areas of the tech industry: software development, QA, data analysis, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

What makes the program particularly meaningful is that sessions are led by Tech-Career alumni now working at Cognyte, who serve not only as instructors but as mentors and relatable role models for the next generation. The sessions take place at Cognyte's offices, giving students a firsthand glimpse into the professional tech environment. Beyond the classroom, mentors connect with students through shared activities at the youth village, building trust and a sense of possibility.

The program aims to spark curiosity about technology and help students begin shaping their future paths, with exposure to potential tracks including technical colleges, academic programs, and Open University courses.

Nurturing Role Models in the Community

Building on five successful cycles, Tech-Career launched two more rounds of its volunteer initiative in October and December, in partnership with FIRST Israel, HaMa’apilim Elementary School in Lod, and F5.

Students from DevNet & Information Security (Cohort 69) and QA Automation (Cohort 70) volunteered with more than 100 first and second graders, introducing them to the world of robotics. Using LEGO kits from FIRST’s FLL Explorer program, they led hands-on activities that gave children their first exposure to technology while encouraging creativity and curiosity.

For our students, this is a chance to give back to the community, even amid the demands of their studies. And for the children, it is a chance to meet inspiring role models - young professionals who show them that a future in technology is within reach.

Spotlight on Our Graduates

Shuanesh Ababa – Class 40, Full Stack Development (2021)

My journey with Tech-Career began shortly before the COVID pandemic. I already knew I wanted to enter the world of technology and high-tech, but I was still searching for the right and most effective way to get there. During my search, the name "Tech-Career" kept coming up, first through people, and then through recommendations and graduate stories. I don't believe in coincidences, so at a certain point I realized that if this name kept appearing in my path, there was probably a reason. That is why I decided to reach out, and my journey with Tech-Career began. The program was intensive and very challenging. It required discipline, daily commitment, and the ability to push through difficult moments. One thing I learned about myself during that period is that motivation alone doesn't last. There were times when things were hard and the path didn't feel clear. What kept me going was belief in myself, perseverance, and the people around me who showed me it was possible. Seeing graduates who had already succeeded in the industry gave me perspective and strength - a reminder that if you do what needs to be done, even when it's challenging, you eventually reach your destination. Tech-Career's impact on me was profound, both professionally and personally. I gained a foundation that allowed me to integrate into the tech world, along with important mental tools for the road ahead. One of the most meaningful outcomes was continuing my academic path which was made possible through a collaboration between Tech-Career and the college where I study today, allowing me to grow professionally and academically at the same time. Today I work at AT&T Israel R&D Center as a Full Stack Developer, an opportunity I found through a collaboration between Tech-Career and the company. My role allows me to keep learning, growing, and deepening my knowledge, and I feel I am in a place that genuinely challenges me to grow and advance. My dream is to keep developing professionally, go deeper into technology and innovation, and create real impact. I believe in the power of community to open doors and create opportunities. In the future, I would love to help create those opportunities for others and support young people in finding their path into the industry and believing in their ability to go far.

Natan Aicho – Class 68, Network Communications, Northern Branch (2026)

My name is Natan, I am 31 years old, and I’m from Kfar Yona. I first heard about Tech-Career while searching for work after eight years as a security guard. After many unsuccessful attempts at finding work, I enrolled in the In-Tech program - my first real window into the world of high-tech. The program exposed me to a range of technology fields, but networking stood out. It sparked a curiosity in me that made me want to go deeper. After completing In-Tech, I enrolled at Tech-Career's new Northern Branch to study Network Communications, fully committing myself to the program. The course was fascinating, starting from the basics, like switches, and building all the way up to advanced routing protocols. The staff and instructors at Tech-Career are not only top professionals, but they also genuinely care about their students. Tech-Career gave us a complete package: guidance, support, and real preparation for the workforce including interview simulations and presentations at leading companies. While still in the program, I was accepted for a NOC HFC position at HOT, one of Israel's leading telecommunications companies. That moment showed me just how relevant and industry-aligned my training had been. Studying at Tech-Career changed my life and opened the door to a new career full of possibilities.
