Bolstering Students' Soft Skills

The English B’Yachad program

The English B'Yachad program, in collaboration with Skilled Volunteers for Israel, provides Tech- Career students with volunteer mentors with whom they meet once a week via Zoom to improve their spoken and written English skills as a preparation for their careers in the high tech industry. Students also have the opportunity to work on their CVs and prepare for job interviews in English. Beyond language studies, these meetings provide an opportunity to connect with Jews from all over the world. Volunteers undergo a training process and learn about the Ethiopian Israeli community. Since June 2020, more than 300 Tech-Career students, graduates and staff participated in the program. Our warmest thanks go out to Marla Gamoran, Skilled Volunteers' Executive Director, Dr. Minna Wolf, English B'Yachad's program director, and all the wonderful volunteers.

Practicing English Presentations

Until recently, our students made all their presentations in Hebrew.  Yet making presentations in English is another great way to improve their skills in the language and to prepare for the industry. The presentations take place in front of the class and Tech-Career's staff, accompanied by our long-time volunteer Robert Bell from NetApp. Robert: "I was surprised by the high level of the students' presentations. This is a very talented group of young people who have gained strong professional skills. They are determined to succeed, make every effort to do their best and do not compromise. Even those who have difficulty with the language didn't give up and overcame the hurdles in a manner that was no less than inspirational. It was clear that they want to succeed as a group, not just individuals. Throughout my life, I have participated in many international conferences, and the presentations I saw here were on the same level, both in terms of content and in terms of presentation quality and skills. I have no doubt that Tech-Career graduates will bring incredible added value to the companies that will employ them and will greatly contribute to the future of Israel's high tech industry."
